Marching Band at Olathe East
Orange and Blue Brigade
The marching band at Olathe East is called the Orange and Blue Brigade.
Recently the program has seen unprecedented success winning several regional festivals including two time Grand Champion at the University of Kansas Heart of America contest as well as the three time Grand Champion at the Missouri Western University Tournament of Champions. They have also won numerous caption awards.
All students in tenth through twelfth grades in the band program are required to participate in the marching program. Freshmen students may choose to audition for entry into the group one year early.
Rehearsal Schedule:
There are additional sectionals and special rehearsals depending on the school schedule, but the regular rehearsal schedule for the Brigade is as follows (please note drumline has a different rehearsal schedule):
Monday: 7 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. and 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 7 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
Thursday: No Rehearsal
Friday: 7 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
There are two mandatory Summer camps that all performers must attend. We learn approximately 50% of the entire field show during camps so it is critical that all members are in attendance. Camp dates for the following summer are solidified during the spring semester.
Parents should email Mrs. Fillingham as soon as they know of any potential conflicts. Students who miss too much of camp will not have a permanent spot in the show and will be an alternate. Visit the calendar page of this website to see past camp schedules.
After experiencing a lot of regional success the staff has decided to attend the Bands of America Super Regional in St. Louis on non-trip years. This competition includes 65 of the best bands in America and is spread across two days of competition.
Olathe East is the only Olathe High School to have ever competed in a Bands of America marching competition. It is a wonderful opportunity to see how we stack up against some of the top marching programs in America!
